Custom Award Design: From the Idea to Sample Approval
Learn the steps of designing custom awards: choosing materials, base, text and packaging, and what to review before approving production and quantity.

Designing a custom award combines the meaning of the occasion, a shape that can be manufactured, clear writing and a stable base. The work starts by deciding who is being honored and why, then turning that idea into a composition that suits the size, the material and the number of pieces. It is not enough for the award to look good in a picture; it must suit carrying, display and packaging.
Turn the story of the occasion into a visual element
The design can draw on the company's activity, a landmark linked to the occasion, or a symbol of achievement. It is best to choose one clear main element, then use the logo and text to support it. An award crowded with symbols can make the idea hard to read, especially when the size is small or the recognition photos are taken from a distance.
How to choose the production method
Acrylic allows flat shapes and transparent or colored layers to be considered. 3D printing suits sculptural elements and special shapes. A project may also combine more than one material and technique, depending on the design. The final material and the way the parts are joined need a review of weight, appearance, durability and budget, with the availability of options confirmed before approval.

The base and the small details
The base must suit the height of the award and the distribution of its weight. Protrusions, letters and thin parts also need thicknesses that can withstand production and normal handling. In Thulathi's initial designs we prefer to strengthen fine details and simplify them when needed; a generated image or a first sketch alone does not prove that every part can be produced as it appears.
Approve the text before production starts
Prepare the names of the honorees, their titles, the date of the occasion and the final text in one file. Review the direction of Arabic writing and diacritics when needed, and ask for a preview of how the text sits on the actual size. The logo must be clear and usable, and a final version must be approved before producing multiple names.
What to check in the sample
Check the stability of the award, the quality of the edges, how the parts connect, the clarity of the writing, and the finish on the visible sides. Also review how it is placed in the packaging and taken out of it. Agree on what the sample represents: does it approve only the shape and color, or does it include the materials and the final production method? This prevents differing expectations between the two sides.
Frequently asked questions
Can an award be designed from the shape of a building?
It can be considered as a model or simplified into layers, depending on its size and details.
Does a gold color mean the award is metal?
No; the material and the type of finish must be stated in the quote.
Can names be changed while the design stays the same?
This is studied as part of file preparation, the count and how the text is placed.
